Your well-being is what makes it easy for you to get up in the morning and start the day. It makes you content with what is going on the world, it can feel comforting.
The definition of well-being can depend from person-to-person, but in general, if you are happy and content, you have decent well-being.
Of course, well-being can be a little more complex than that. Let’s explain.
The Many Parts of Well-Being
Well-being can be divided into six parts. Let’s look at them.
Life evaluation is when you look at your life critically and decide where you are at.
You can usually divide life evaluation into three parts: thriving, struggling, or suffering.
Of course, there are more nuances than just that. Your life may be thriving in some areas, and struggling in others. However, having an overall score can help you determine your well-being.
This is how you are feeling emotionally. Do you feel happy? Are you worrying about something? Do you feel stressed?
Emotions can change, but you should feel more positive than negative emotions if you want to have strong well-being.
Work is a part of life, and in order to have well-being, your job needs to feel satisfactory. If you’re doing a repetitive job where you feel as though you are learning nothing, then your work environment may be poor. If your boss is treating your poorly, that can affect your well-being at work too.
How you are feeling physically can have a large impact on how you feel mentally.
If you are in a lot of pain or sickness, you may have poor well-being. If you haven’t been getting enough sleep, you may have poor well-being.
Are you taking care of yourself?
If you are smoking frequently, eating junk food, and you haven’t had enough physical exercise, then your well-being in this part of life may not be that good. Meanwhile, if you eat healthy foods and avoid food waste, if you work out frequently, and if you avoid unhealthy activities, you may have strong well-being.
Having your basic needs met is essential when deciding how you are in this world.
For example, if you have a roof over your head, clean water, medicine, and other needs met, your well-being is flourishing.
If the opposite is happening, then you may have a problem.
Improving Your Well-Being
If you want to improve your well-being, you need to take care of all six of these categories.
Some of them can be easier to do than others. Picking up a diet and exercise regimen is easier than finding a home if you’re homeless.
Focus on the easiest parts to improve first, and this may give you enough motivation for you to focus on the harder parts of life. Dividing your problems into smaller goals is a time-tested solution, and it may be just what you need to improve your life.
However, you may also need to take care of some of the more complicated issues, such as finding a career. It all depends on you and what your situation is. By knowing what you need to handle first, you can make changes to your life.
Another way you can improve your well-being is to talk to someone and ask how you can take the steps needed to grow.
