There is no doubt that a road trip is a favourite with holidaymakers across the world, whether this is a trip along the classic Route 66 or through the beautiful region of Tuscany. Road trips have something to offer for every sort of traveller.

This is the same in the UK. With the incredible scenery of Scotland and Ireland, to the endless number of beaches dotted up and down the Welsh and Cornish coast. The opportunities for those looking to choose a road trip around the UK are spoilt for choice.

But what are some of the best road trips available to us in the UK? Be it, car, motorbike or camper van, here are 3 of the best road trips across the UK.

North Coast 500, Scotland.

The 500-mile circular route is one of the favourites for those looking for a trip to Scotland. Consisting of mainly backroads this famous route allows you to appreciate how lucky we are to have some of the most incredible scenery around the world.

Traversing along the coast from Inverness, this 500-mile route offers the chance to visit the timely tiny-finishing hamlets, gothic ruins which bring history to life, and a familiar favourite Whiskey distillery. The nature of the drive has something for everyone, from picturesque passes in the Highlands to TT like fast bends and tight turns, this drive will capture the imagination of even the most disdainful motorist.

Dotted with small B&Bs across the whole route, the North Coast 500 can take you however long you like. For those looking to take this route on two wheels, it is advised to have suitable motorcycle clothing for the unpredictable nature of the weather, as well as, the correct motorcycle luggage for your bike.

Depending on how many miles you want to do in a day, this can take you up to 7 days.

The Atlantic Highway, Cornwall, England.

If you have ever been to Cornwall, there is no doubt you have travelled along the Atlantic highway at some point. Steeped in history as an old trading route, The Atlantic Highway today is a favourite of those who visit Cornwall all year round.

For most of the route, the road is sandwiched between the rolling hills of the Cornwall and Devon countryside and the beauty of the Jurassic Coast. For those looking to grab their wetsuit and a surfboard, The Atlantic Highway has become a synonymous route for those searching for the perfect beach breaks in the tiny coves and beaches dotted along the route.

However, if you are looking for a quieter, more relaxed time, you can stop off at Exmoor National park for endless hikes or visit the quaint seaside towns and villages of Padstow, Trevone and Newquay further down.

More known for allowing travellers to jump up and down the Cornish Coast, it can, however, provide you 5 days of fantastic scenery and experiences.

The Black Mountain Pass, Wales.

Highlighted as one of the greatest roads in the UK to drive by the Top Gear team, The Black Mountain Pass is an epic trip even for the light-hearted motorist. A chance to get you and your companion’s imagination and sense of exploration going, this is one of the more spectacular road trips in the UK,

Showing the best of the Brecon Beacons, this single road through the rugged landscape of the Welsh Countryside provides us with the natural beauty of Wales. Ideally travelling from North to South, the road meanders, rises and falls from Llandovery at the top cascading down to the Village of Gwaun-Cee-Gurwen.

The shortest route out of them all, this will take you two or three days.
