Life And Learning In The Time Of COVID-19

Women working and studying from home. Sat at desk with laptop.

Let’s face it: we’ve spent more time at home during the last twelve months than we have in the entire decade before that.

We all know of someone who has spent all this time at home on the couch catching up on box sets, and others who have used the time to get super fit and healthy. Hopefully you have managed to make the most out of your time at home, be it learning a new hobby, working on a passion project or taking up some online learning.

If you haven’t, maybe now is the time to start.

One online course which will stand you in good stead both while we are still in lockdown and for that rosy future when we will be able to roam the streets freely again, is teaching English as a Foreign Language. A TEFL course is a 120-hour online course which will teach you everything you need to know about teaching English as a Foreign Language. Theories of learning, teaching methods, classroom management tips, strategies for lesson planning, a crash course in English grammar – you name it, it’s included on the course.

And if you’re a bit nervous about online learning, don’t be: any good, internationally-recognised, accredited TEFL course will provide you with access to a team of EFL professionals who will be available to you throughout the course to answer all your questions and help you with assignments.

Once you’ve got your TEFL certificate under your belt, you’re ready to set foot in a classroom, be it face-to-face or online. That’s right, any TEFL course will qualify you to teach both in a physical classroom and in a virtual one. If you can’t travel right now, you can easily set yourself up in your living room or home office. And you don’t even need much to get started, just a good laptop, a reliable internet connection, a microphone/headset and a quiet space to teach.

Then, when our borders open again, you can take your pick of which country you want to visit first. Thailand? Argentina? Italy? The possibilities are endless, so if you have trouble choosing where you want to go, download the TEFL World Factbook 2021 from The TEFL Academy. It’ll give you all the info you need on over 100 popular TEFL destinations, including average teaching salaries, cost of living, tourist attractions, weather conditions and even popular local dishes.

But that’s not all! You can also choose to teach online while you are travelling. This way, you can embrace the life of a Digital Nomad and the world really will be your oyster, because your job is not dependent on where you live. As long as you have an internet connection, your students won’t mind if you’re in New York or New Delhi.

Does all this sound too good to be true? Why not give it a try and see for yourself.
