Improve The Quality Of Wine In A Wine Fridge

Blue and white kitchen cabinets in with built in cooker, American style fridge freezer and wine cooler cabinet

If you have a stock of wine bottles, read quickly the advantages of a wine cooler if you don’t know how to store them.

You may now be thinking about purchasing a wine cooler at Wine Cooler Shop.co.uk. Probably also the reason that you ended up on this page. But why should you choose a wine cooler? In this article we would like to explain the advantages of our wine cabinets compared to, for example, the refrigerator, storage room, cellar or other storage places for wine within the house.

1. Always at a constant temperature

A constant temperature ensures that the taste of the wine lasts much longer and can be stored longer. Wines stored at room temperature will ripen too quickly and this shortens the shelf life. Store wines preferably between 10 and 13 °C, unless otherwise indicated on the label.

A wine cabinet can easily be set to the desired temperature for the different types of wine. When choosing a model with dual-zones, both zones can be set separately from each other. Ideal if both red and white wine must be stored. The temperature is always constant, so no fluctuations as is the case in most rooms in the house. This is the great advantage of modern electronics, which are able to continuously monitor the temperature and thus prevent large fluctuations in said temperature.

This also means that the proximity of, for example, a dryer or radiator will not affect the quality and shelf life of the wine when it is stored in the wine cabinet. However, do not place the wine cooler directly next to a heat source, such as the dryer or radiator mentioned above. Also avoid placement in an area where the temperature can drop below freezing, such as a shed.

2. Wine is immediately at the right temperature to serve

To really bring out the taste of the wine, it is important to serve the wine at the right temperature. Because the wine is already stored in the freestanding wine fridge at the desired temperature, the wine is immediately ready to serve.

For the majority of wines to be consumed immediately, you can use the same storage temperature as the temperature to serve the wine.

With a wine cabinet you no longer have to think about taking the (white) wine out of the fridge exactly on time, in the hope that the timing was right if you had not preplanned it..

3. Optimal air circulation

In the wine cabinet, the bottles can lie quietly in a well-ventilated environment. Ventilation is therefore different from drafts.

If the bottles of wine are in a draft, i.e. in a direct airflow from, for example, an open window, this will not benefit the quality of the wine. Wines in a draft cannot develop properly. The wine, as it were, catches a cold and cannot recover afterwards.

4. Optimal humidity

Our wine cabinets always have an optimum humidity of at least 65%. This means not too dry so that the cork can dry out. A dried-out cork not only breaks quickly, it also allows too much oxygen to get to the wine. This causes the wine to oxidize, causing the taste to deteriorate.

The wine cabinet also ensures that it does not get too humid for the bottles of wine. If it is too moist, the label can peel off or even go moldy over time. This would be a shame for a nice bottle of quality wine. Also, rooms that are too humid can smell musty, an air that can penetrate through the cork into the wine bottle over time. This is prevented with a wine  cabinet.

5. Does not give UV radiation a chance

It is not for aesthetic reasons that wine is almost always stored in a green or brown bottle. Ultraviolet light, such as sunlight, has a strong influence on the chemical composition of the wine. It will not affect the taste, but the colour of the wine will be altered. However, the brown or green glass of the wine bottle does not block all the UV light. Wine  cabinets are therefore best purchased fully equipped with a glass door with UV filter to block the ultraviolet light. Thanks to the glass door, you also have a nice view of your wine stock, without (sun) light affecting the quality of your wines.

LED lighting has been used for a long time for the lighting in wine cabinets. This lighting technique has no influence on the wines, is very economical and does not give off heat.
