5 Beautiful Succulent Plants for Indoor Hanging Baskets

Hanging baskets can look beautiful and are a great way to add plants to extra spaces that would normally be unreachable or featureless.

Succulents can make great plants for hanging baskets – they don’t need to be watered frequently and the can look absolutely fantastic.

Ceropegia Woodii – String of Hearts

This incredible photo from Maja Dumat captures the beauty of String of Hearts perfectly – it really is a gorgeous plant.

The heart shaped leaves love to trail over the side of the pot, so hang it up nice and high.

Ceropegia woodii flowers (see the image below) and is native to South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.

Crassula Marginalis

Crassula marginalis is a beautiful and interesting succulent that is a lot of fun to experiment with and propagate.

It also looks great in hanging baskets – as the stems start to grow longer they will start to overflow out of the pot they are in and dangle over the sides.

There are a few varieties available, including the lusciously red-infused Crassula marginalis rubra.

Senecio Rowleyanu – String of Pearls

No list of succulent hanging baskets could fail to include Senecio Rowleyanu – String of Pearls.

Not the easiest plant to maintain, but once you get the hang of it String of Pearls will reward you with a majestic hanging basket centrepiece.

The round balls love to dangle over the edge of the pot and make for beautiful displays.

Do not water too often and give the plant plenty of light.

Sedum Morganianum – Burro’s Tail

A classic succulent for hanging baskets is Sedum Morganianum aka Burro’s Tail or Donkey’s Tail.

Each stem contains fat juicy jellybean-like leaves that hang over the edge of the pot like a donkey’s tail!

Crassula Rupestris Marnieriana ‘Hottentot’

This fantastic variety of Crassula loves to drape its chunky arms over the edge of the pot and sometimes has a cute little curl on the end.

Don’t over-water the plant too much and give it plenty of sunlight.
